THE SILENT FIGURE IN WHITEFACE REHEARSES ALL EMOTIONS AND GESTURES WITHOUT SPEECH AS SHE WAS TAUGHT IN EARLY NINETEENTH CENTURY PARIS. SOMEWHERE BETWEEN COMMEDIA DELL'ARTE AND GERMAN EXPRESSIONIST FILM, HER PERFORMANCE CONCERNS THE WAY SHE TRULY FEELS BEHIND THE SMEARED MASK OF BEAUTY.

Quieting down the noises inside her head, Fay enters the mime wearing a bohemian beaded gown speckled by a delicate floral motif restrained by a black leather vest closed by a satin ribbon, by CHANEL. Her skin is a porcelain canvas painted with a sapient blend of NATURA BISSÉ moisturizer, Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide foundation in Ivory and Secret Camouflage concealer, both by LAURA MERCIER. The matte off-white effect throughout the editorial is obtained with BEN NYE’s Super White Powder. Her eyes are shaded by SURRATT’s Artistique Eyeshadow, featured in the delicate Poudre color. On the lips a whisper of HOMÉOPLASMINE lip balm.

Backstage silence grows as she closes her eyes wearing MAC’s Kelly Green Pigment, intensified by the gold Comete nuance of Diorshow Fusion Mono eyeshadow by DIOR MAKEUP. The makeup on her eyes vanishes in the magenta Exhibit A shade of NARS’s Blush, while her lips are marked by the intense MAC Pigment in Red Basic. A nude tulle dress with flounces and frills reveals a retro-shaped satin bra, both designed by ROSAMOSARIO. A striped wool cardigan by RED VALENTINO and ribbed wool stockings by GALLO comfort her thoughts, while the gold-plated earrings and circle ring by NIOMO and the tiny ring with jets by IOSSELLIANI shine with discretion.

Caressed by moonlight Fay gathers the power to act, stained with MAC’s Paint Stick in the uncompromising Black Black shade, while her lips and cheeks flush with the Basic Red nuance of MAC Pigment. In this scene she wears a black silk blouse by PAUL ANDREW FOR DONNA KARAN NEW YORK, paired with the cold brilliance of the gunmetal asymmetrical collier by IOSSELLIANI. The earring by NIOMO adds a fine brush stroke of gold.

The last vestiges of make up veil her skin with the shades of MAC’s Primary Yellow and Hi-Def Cyan Pigment. Eyebrows are designed by SURRATT’s Brow Pomade. This silk chemise mini dress by RED VALENTINO plays with see-through inserts, as the floral motif emerges from black lace flounces revealing the aquamarine lace bra by ROSAMOSARIO. The veiled stockings and garter belt are also made by the Italian lingerie designer. The silver pendant earrings end with a tear of clear topaz, while a delicate gold-plated ring is illuminated by a lonely green zircon, both form the “Puro” collection of IOSSELLIANI.

Current and following pages: Black chenille arabesques adorn the nude tulle cape dress by SIMONE ROCHA in a triumph of frills and black crystals, while a striped wool beanie by GALLO tames her wild ginger hair. Resisting the urge to bite her nails, Fay contemplates the dark light shining from IOSSELLIANI’s rings, adorned by jets and yellow crystals. On the eyes the Mad Man World aquamarine shade of NARS’s Duo Eyeshadow is blended with strokes of Cyan and Black Black colors of MAC’s Paint Stick. Deep red matte lips and cheeks are painted in the Red Basic nuance of MAC Pigment.

Speaking to an imaginary audience, the highly sculptural mime wears a striped wool dress by CÉLINE, styled with fringed earrings by IOSSELLIANI and a set of rings by ELLEN CONDE, dipped in ruthenium and adorned by candid pearls. Her celestial eyes are circled by the glowing Poudre shade of SURRATT’s Artistique Eyeshadow, while the intense Basic Red of MAC’s Pencil silence her lips.
