Gotico Veneziano

The oldest section of the Danieli Hotel, the Palazzo Dandolo, was initially built at the end of the 14th century for Doge Enrico Dandolo. In 1822, Italian entrepreneur Giuseppe Dal Niel (nicknamed Danieli) rented out a floor of the Palazzo Dandolo as a guesthouse, becoming so successful he was eventually able to overtake and restore the entire property. Dal Niel’s hotel, which was rechristened the Hotel Danieli, quickly ascended to international recognition as Venice’s premier bastion of Old World elegance anf Gothic luxury. Illustrious figures such as Balzac, Proust, Wagner, Garbo, and Chaplin were loyal guests. George Sand lived in room number 10 with her lover Alfred de Musset in 1833. Elizabeth Taylor is rumored to have spent two separate honeymoons in the Doge Suite.
